A bike in lieu of a car will save money. A bike in addition to a car will cost money. A bike can be a toy or transportation. As a toy a motorcycle is far, far superior to any car. A transportation it is cheaper, but you are exposed to the weather, which can be a hassle. For me, the advantage of a motorcycle is that I do not have to sit in a a cage. If you don't mind being in a cage, that is not an advantage.

With a car you at least stand a better chance of surviving an accident! Don't get me wrong here, Having a motorcycle can be fun, but be sure to use a helmet and proper clothing for riding! I can tell you from personal experience that wearing a helmet can make a difference between suffering head injuries and brain damage, to just getting a bit of road-rash if you crash.

Car advantages: shopping is easier, air conditioning/heater, safer in accident, not exposed to the elements, can take more than 1 passenger (not always an advantage), other drivers see you easier (drivers usually don't look for bikes), don't have to carry around jacket, helmet etc.

Bike advantages: much more fun, better in traffic, better in the city, can always find parking spot for a bike (big advantage especially in the city), cheaper to buy (usually). more economical.

I like both cars and bikes, they are 2 very different types of transport that have their own advantages and disadvantages. The best is to have (at least) one of each!!!!!!!!

None
and
NONE

But, they say I'm crazy anyway.
I do my shopping on my motorcycle. Heck, I do everything except sleep and sex on my motorcycle. The only disadvantage is I can't bring my dogs to the Vet. So, I keep them healthy. The cats ride in the saddlebags.

Personally, I love riding a motorcycle. I have a blue Kawasaki Ninja 250R (the smaller of that line). I live and work in New York City - and driving would be impossible. A bike is faster and then you don't have to wait for public transportation late at night - I particularly don't like that since I am a woman. I wear a business suit and ride my bike to work - no problem. Also, driving between all the taxis and cars (on the lane dividing lines) is sweet since it saves times. For me, a car isn't even an option, but I can understand that things like inclement weather, grocery shopping, etc would be difficult. But you can get gear for inclement weather....

Why do I get thumbs down? lol

In a car you can carry more stuff, and they're better when the roads are snow-packed.

Other than that, car's don't have any real advantages over cars. So for the 250 snow-free days each year that you commute by yourself, they will save you TONS in gas money.

suck points of a bike: generally doesnt have much cargo carrying capability; except those that find ingenious ways to pack a bike. they're suicidal to ride in icy weather and getting caught in hail storms. they're not as forgiving to certain mistakes that wont faze a car. cars have a habit of not seeing us. cant carry more than 1 person on a bike...family trips would be out. if u blow a tire at speed....u die. it wont take much to knock u off a bike; smack into a red tailed hawk at 45 mph.
wet grass/leaves, sand, oil, anti-freeze, gravel can and will take u down quicker than a dress on prom night.
it takes guts to ride in the rain....it's do-able, but that rain hurts if it hits bare skin, and wet roads are also slick.
squids cause certain models of bikes to be about on par with a top-of-the-line sports car when it comes to trying to insure them.
if u go down at a 'slow' 30 mph, u'll learn a new definition of pain if u were in the squidly attire of shorts, sandles, tank top, and no gloves.....let alone at speeds higher than 30.
squids get some high powered bike they cant handle, get themselves smoked for riding recklessly....and enough of them die for the ntsb to renew calls for states to enact manditory helmet laws.

car advantagous: u wont die gettin hit in the back from an idiot that hit the gas instead of the brakes at that light.
u can carry more than 1 person...up to the limit of the seat belts. u can carry alot of cargo...depending on what cargo.
u can drive in any weather conditions except a flash flood.
u can get away with certain things that will definately kill u on a bike; brake and swerve combined is 1 of them.....smackin into a very small deer is another.
u wont get hypothermic at temps 15 degrees and lower.
colliding with: june bugs, rocks, bee's, and birds wont hurt...or in some cases, kill u.
a fender bender wont kill u or send u to the hospital for a couple days.

the bike's biggest advantage besides size, speed, and low cost......it's a drastic difference vs a car. 4 wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul. it takes alot of balls to ride on cage infested streets.

transporting goods like someone else said groceries would be pretty hard to bring home on a bike...

bad weather sucks, if you live in a place that has bad winters it wouldn't be wise to use the bike during the winter, and not just because of the cold

also accident wise, you're much safer in a car

car advantages: air conditioning during hot months, out of the elements (like rain, snow, wind, extreme temps, etc.), more protection around you (air bags & more metal structure), can typically have multiple passengers, typically more storage & hauling capacity, easier for others to see.

motorcycle advantages: more FUN, more manueverable, easier to find parking, can view the scenery better, more FUN, better fuel mileage, less expensive typically...

probably more for both sides...
