People want to please other people, even if that means denying some basic issues about themselves. The truth can be a difficult thing to face, especially if it is a truth that you know people you love will find hard to accept.

A person has to do something to feel good about himself and if lying to himself and the whole world is the only way to accomplish that, so be it. If we were too honest with ourselves, we'd see ourselves as we really are. We need at least a tiny bit of lie to give us the confidence to keep going and trust what we're doing, whether it's right or wrong. The problem is, though, that an awful lot of us tend to everdo it. If we looked too closely in the mirror, the illusion and our world falls apart as we fall our pedestals. Please don't think that I'm justifying the lie when I say we need a tiny bit of it, I just suspect that that is the way in which that the human psyche works. A person has to believe in what he's doing in order to function, regardless of how wrong or demented he might actually be.

Sometimes it is difficult for others to accept who they are...
They may have issues of past embarrasments or they are going through some private emotions...I always say never lie to yourself or you may end up lying to others...The phrase "Be true to yourself" does not go very far these days...I try to stick with what I know and not to put to much out there...If you know that somene is not being honest with themselves then it is best to have a quiet talk with them and let them know"Hey I know that you havent been honest with yourself lately and that it may be time to come to clean with yourself." Or you may want to ask them if there is anything that they may want to talk to you about that they may not want others to know? We have all been in situations like this and sometimes it is hard to come to terms with our own issues...

Because they have insecurities and this makes them anxious and they find it difficult to be honest. Being honest about yourself requires the ability to see yourself and be confident with what you see. Not everyone can do that.

When we are honest with ourselves, we have to admit that we are not perfect, that in some way we are even inferior to others. None of us really like to admit that we are wrong, this is pride standing in our way. I think it is freeing as a human to be able to admit our faults and shortcomings, especially to someone that cares about us as a person.
