pre-load your overdrives before the battle (i'm not sure you can do this.... I haven't played this in a while) and unload the first few turns in battle
Makes sure you have lots of anti-poison stuff, like antidotes or poison-proof accessories.
Stay away from him for as long as possible, telling cid to barrage with missiles and get wakka and lulu to drive his health down.
I used hastega in this battle although I have seen some sources saying that you shouldn't, stating that evrae will just "slow" you in retaliation. I think I had tidus wear slow-proof accessories and casted hastega like every turn in order to hit as fast as i can. I love strategies like this....
