I already have a Washington and an Adams, which I got as change for buying stamps at the Post Office vending machine. I don't need any more stamps, though. It seems nobody uses these coins as currency, at least in the Washington, DC area, where you'd think they'd be in wide circulation.

I get mine (for tooth fairy compensation) at my local bank. They usually only have a few but that's fine. If you've got an Adams you're in good shape; Jefferson was just released for circulation August 16 so he might be hard to find. The ones for $15 for 4 coins are mint proof; meant to be collected never spent or removed from protective plastic. Then each year just 4 come out so be patient and ask around at banks. A little silver polish will make any golden dollar coin sparkle like new if you get one a bit tarnished.

There has to be a bank there that will have them as they are released. Of course they will only have the ones from the Philadelphia mint. Most people don't know it, but to have a set of Washington dollars you need 3, each has a different mint mark and one is a proof. No one uses dollar coins very much and that will not happen, until the government stops printing dollar bills.

Go to your bank and get a roll at face value ($10 or $20 I don't remember how big a roll is for $1 coins) Keep the ones you want, spend the rest. (They are legal currency so anywhere you go they HAVE to take them)
