We don't necessarily HAVE to make mistakes in order to learn - I learned a lot by watching the mistakes of those around me and how the mistakes affected their lives... I didn't learn enough to stay out of my own kind of trouble, though, and some things unfortunately are learned by experience (the hard way).
Listening to advice when it is given would be like a miracle. We like to think we know how to take care of ourselves, and don't like to be told what to do, whether it is kind or harsh. Our pride gets in the way.
There are several reasons why we don't always listen to advice; a few are that, 1.we feel the person giving the advice has never been in our shoes and therefore doesn't know anything about it nor do they understand. 2. It could be the person's age - if they are younger, the same age, or only a little bit older, you may feel like they don't have enough experience in life to give you that advice, or aren't as wise as they should be. Sometimes it's because we feel the person giving the advice has made so many mistakes that how could they possibly be able to give sound advice?
Siiiiigh if only we could be perfect! :)
God Bless!

No, we don't need to, but we all have different way s of learning. Some people make the same mistakes over and over and never learn. We don't listen to advice when it is igven because of pride. We tend to think that we already know all there is and that we know better than the next person. That is not always the case, and we should take advantage of the knowledge of others form their experiences and their mistakes. How many times does history have to repeat itself before we learn??!!?!

Sometimes. It is much better though to listen and learn.
A mistake is usually an experience.
From burnt fingers to loss of life.
When the mistake is made through not listening, then that is a costly experience at times.
The idea for the young to listen to the forbearer, is primarily done so, so the same mistake will not be repeated, unfortunately this is not how it turns out most times.
Often I heard, what does he/she know, he/her are too old, they don't know SH one T.
That's why years of experience means nothing. I remember a young radio announcer made a big blunder on air, the station manager drew the carpet on the guy and started by these words "In the 43 years of radio, my experience has never been to tell you announcers what to do on air, you're suppose to be intelligent enough to know better."
Young guy "Experience, what're you know about experience, I've been screwing your wife for the last twelve months and you didn't know"
Well the costly consequences of the young guy running at the mouth in front of all, cost him his job, his vocation came to a complete stop, I suppose he is digging holes somewhere still.
It is funny some times, because it escapes the mouths of juveniles, that remind me of the antics a young monkey does to the parent, funny for the comedy of the moment for the watcher.
When the mistake is done because of stupidity, then I don't think anything is learned by the experience, by example the Hollywood crack pack, now they're all in rehab, getting ready to start making the same mistakes all over.

We don't listen because most of the time we tend to feel that we don't need advice so to answer the first part of your question, some of us do in fact need to make mistakes in order to learn. For some of the rest of us its an issue of trust. Take fishing for example, if I saw you at a lake and you told me I should use a yellow spinner bait in order to catch the fish I want, I probably will try everything elso in my tackle box first before I use the bait you suggested. This is because I think I know how to fish without your help. Most people are like that as far as I can tell.

No you do not need to make mistakes to learn, but it is the way we learn when we do not know the right answer, and through either educated guessing, dumb luck or trial and error, we find the correct answer.
We don't listen to advice when it is given because we (a) think we know the right answer, (b) believe the advice is wrong, or c) don't trust the source of the advice.

Yes we need to make mistakes in order to learn anything you do not listen to the advice because you think that what ever they say will not happen to you I shouldve listened to my mom a hundred times over and I would not have made the mistakes that I have made but luckily she never said told you so she just supported me when I needed to learn from the mistake good luck

you dont need to make mistakes to learn anything
if you are wise enough u should already have an inkling of whats right or wrong
yes you can learn from others if u choose to
but sometimes there are things that you just have to go through yourself in order to learn. sometimes its not enough that others have warned us against something bad, its just the way we are as humans. we take risks. we can never learn fully by other people's mistakes, we always need to make some mistakes in our lives to teach us valuable lessons

No... that is not an absolute truth as one may learn from observation. But it is most likely true that more is learned from mistakes than from successes!!! Repetition of what accomplished success doesn't mean complete understanding of it.
People often don't listen to advice because they have no means to validate such advicea and there are issues of trust and curiosity in play.

b/c people are stubborn. Some people learn when getting advice and some people like me have to make a mistake in order to learn not only my lesson, but the whole package that comes with it.

Dear,
I agree with you. We must listen to advice when it is given.
Advice are reference to perfections. The advisors are the one who experiences mistake 'thousand' of times. He improve to "Zero Mistake" from his own mistakes.
That is what Human Beings is all about.
Human Beings make mistake and human beings cannot get away from mistakes. Nobody is excellence. Everybody make mistakes.
From Mistakes we Improve to "Zero Mistake" by checking many time again and all over again. Getting proof reading to Zero defect and mistakes.
Experiences make success. The failures are the steps to success. In the begining, every body make mistake. Towards the "END" it's perfect.
