I went in to their office and I have to do this everyday because the fax is in there I said "helloooo" in a friendly tone and one of them just mimicked my voice and even though I felt belittled I just smiled at him but what can I say or what attitude should I habe towards this type of behaviour. I work in an environment where everyone mocks each other. I have no intention of leaving because i find the work really interesting but i need tips to survive that environment so any advice is more than welcomed!

What a drag. Just be polite and professional, no social-type banter.

If something like that happens again, try meeting and holding eye contact and relax your face so it becomes expressionless. Just hold that eye contact--no belligerence, no hurt, definitely no smile. After you "recognize" each other for a moment, break away and continue what you were doing. (You may want to think about this before trying to put it into action, to ensure its effectiveness).

Tell them you prefer not to participate in their game, that you find it offensive and belittling. If they persist, go to the next person on the ladder.

You have the right to work in an environment that you're comfortable in.

Be polite, set an example of proper work place interaction and ignore any rude behavior. It may take some time but they are the fools and will slowly realize what boors they are and reform to some degree.

keep things simple and don't flirt. Be very aware of your tone. Have a sense of humor, but DON't be a ditzy girl.Laid back, yet productive is the best way to go.

Personally I wouldn't stay, but that's your choice and if you feel you can survive it, more power to you.

The only tip I can give is to make sure they can't tell when they are getting to you. The more response they get, the more they will do.

call them on their behavior when they do it. That is the only way to make them stop.
