I'm in the process of insularing and putting interior wall surfaces in my art studio (loft in a garage). The primary heat source this winter will be a pellet stove (outside air source for combustion air) used only while I am working in the studio. I need a space heater that will at the very least keep the space (12'x7'x24') above freezing while I am not in it. I've noticed on the baseboard heaters that they reccomend not using them in an area that is subject to high dust levels or fumes. Since most of my work is done in dry pastels and I use fixative (also mineral spirits when I paint in oils), I was concerned that I might be setting myself up for a flash fire or explosion if I installed a baseboard system.
Keep in mind that I do not have gas or propane to the building (a hopefully near future project!), so eletricity is my only choice of energy for the heat.
Any thoughts on this?

Thank you!

You could buy a mini spli heat pump. This is a ductless heating and air conditioning system. A lot better and more efficient than a space heater. And at the same time you get ac. Check out the ductless ac page at my source.

Look into an Oil-Filled Radiator or Oil-Filled Space heater. They have no open coils that can catch something on fire. They hold and distribute heat quite well.

I have one that I have been using for 15 years. Used it to heat garage to prevent pipes freezing, later basement play area for kids. Now in unheated loft in my condo.
