I have a mental block and i can't seem to motivate my mind to create anything. I just need some ideas or inspiration to help me get out of my slump.

Get away from the computer for a while and go for a walk somewhere you never been before where there aren't any people. Bring suitable music unless you are blocked from making music. At that point just listen to the sounds around you. Try not to think about anything. Just be.

Two things come to mind:

Try working in a medium that you have never used before--sometimes new *stuff* can get the juices flowing.

Do some research--go to Wikipedia and find something that interests you--maybe a culture you've been curious about...a biological process...scientific discovery--just dig into something and really learn about it. It will take you outside yourself and hopefully around that block!

what are you creating for? Whats the block? Narrow that down, and maybe I could give you some resources for inspiration!

*In general, taking a walk, maybe doing some photography, listening to music usually inspires me...OR hit the library art section....Or the bookstore!

Think of the very worst desperate situation you have ever faced where you thought there was no way to solve it. Then think back to why you survived it & are still here to even consider it.
Without thought, try to immediately try to express in one work.
Regardless of how good or bad you think it turns out.
When you have reached a point in your work when you become frustrated.
STOP!!!!
THE ONE VERY QUICK TRY WILL PRODUCE THE RESULT YOU ARE TRYING TO EXPRESS WHETHER YOU REALIZE IT OR NOT.

Remember SHORT, QUICK,
WITHOUT THOUGHT. Waste not a moment & begin a new piece that has a pleasant personal memory you have & draw a simple rendition of that memory in any medium or with any subject matter used to express your feelings.

You will find that you are on the way to a permanent solution to how to break that block any time you face it.

Each time you apply that technique in your own personal way, the mind works in such a way that each little positive increment of shortening the time it takes to break the block is additive and it will slowly become easier & easier until someday you will always be able to find some inspiration to create a new work.
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", so do not worry or think about how good or bad someone else might think any piece of work you do is"
Someone, Somewhere, will find something about any given piece that they like.
Creating a work of art is an act of total isolation, it is created solely from your own mind, so you must look, observe, remember, & apply only what YOU can concieve based on your own life experience.
I do not know at what stage of art you consider yourself to be in, but whether you are in the beginning stages or already a professional; when you create your work do not consider it's saleability while you are doing it. If you apply the principles of art you already know & apply "ONLY YOUR OWN PERSONAL INTERPRETATION to the work, it WILL become more saleable without you thinking about it.
You will become better & better regardless of what stage you are in. (all artists go through stages)
Reserve a brief amount of your available time to break away & experiment briefly in another medium. It will give your mind a chance to keep from being "Bored" with your artwork. (Remember: Do not worry about the outcome). Each break into another medium will give you more inspiration in your preffered medium.
The problem of mental block will be there everyday when you wake up, so you must face it as a fact that you must overcome everyday. THE ONLY WAY IS TO SIMPLY START SOMETHING NEW IMMEDIATELY. Don't spend much time on it. Just start a new piece, regardless of how small, large, the subject or anything else. Lay it aside if you do not like what you are or producing & go back to a piece you may have started earlier & laid aside, or if you have a current piece of work that you want to complete.
If you like what your are producing in the new piece, go ahead & work on it as long as you desire, you can always lay it aside at any time.
When you can do this you will always have SOMETHING that will inspire you, or nag at your mind, or something you can go back to either work on or decide to completely abandon it. Whatever you do, you will ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO KEEP YOU FROM HAVING TO DEAL WITH MENTAL BLOCK.
Right now, take a any kind of piece of paper & draw the DUMBEST object you can think of in the quickest, simplest way you can. Crumple it up & trash it.
YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY.
Good Luck & best wishes to you & all persons with goodwill in their heart.

dont over think it. just put pen to paper and go. get some ink down without any prior knowlegde of what the composition will be. involve styles you dont use or haven't yet, see how that goes. there are many great art blogs out there to explore, many. I read somewhere yesterday that writers block means you are playing video games, funny huh?

Get away from the computer. Go pick a few pics from a magazine. Use them as inspiration. Try and combine a few pics into something new. :D

Mental blocks are hard. What I do is to go to a museum, or look at other peoples work, or smoke a joint.
