The National Hurricane Center which is the leading authority on hurricanes. (I don't care what the private forecasting firms say.) They did all the work on data colection.

Hurricane activity was low from about 1970 to 1994 before a more active cycle began in 1995.

It used all of the letter names for storms and then had Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, and Zeta, Which actually made it into 2006!
