You would listen to me from mere politeness.
You would respect my opinions only when you have analyzed them enough to come to the conclusion that I make valid ones, even though they may not agree with yours.
And if it can be proven that I am talking from more experience in the particular subject, that would make my opinion as equally or even more valid than your own.

All opinions are just that.... one view, one side of it. If you ask people for theirs, it can help you reform your own. It can help you develop empty, tolerance and understanding.
One opinion is no "more" right or wrong than any other.
A lot of opinions are based on experience, some people are jaded by life, so have negative opinions. Others have a brighter out look on life and see things differently. Its just one view from one position at any given time.
I don't think its possible to say one opinion is more valid than another. There might be more consensus and agreement about a certain point of view or option, but that doesn't mean there is no validity in any other way of looking at the same thing.

It seems,to me, that you are asking two questions here. First why should you listen...Well, put simply you wont know weather what I have to say is valid or worthy of respect until you do listen.
The question of validity and comparison with your opinion is very contentious and is practically the reason FOR the science of philosophy.
Philosophy reduces argument and opinion to it's component parts; in a way not unlike mathematical formulae.So..... some prepositions are obviously wrong. e.g. grass is purple. While others are worthy of consideration.e.g the universe is expanding. Some are blatantly correct. e.g. some people are taller than others.
The answer to your question lies within you. The trick is to process the information in an intelligent way.Try to exclude prejudice and popular miss conceptions. When you weigh it all up what is left is your opinion.
In short...Listen, Think, Judge.........

You should listen to the answer given to a question you ask because it is the right thing to do. Whether or not you heed the opnion or advice is completely up to you after the fact.
What makes an opinion equal to or superior to your own is how you perceive it and the perception of the person giving it to you. If they have a past history of giving you good advice and you respect their views and thoughts, they could have more of an influence than a complete stranger or someone you do not respect.

You should listen because it might make you change your opinion in a positive way with new and different perspective and data. Or it might make your opinion even stronger as it is.
You should respect it so that you may be not only polite, but diplomatic. Maybe you want your opinion to be respected as well, right?
Civility is what makes fair and positive growth possible and efficient. One can never find out the possibilities without being civil enough to have dialog.

All opinions are valid.
By definition, opinions are based on a subjective interpretation of a given situation. Opinions are how you feel. To listen to someone's opinion is simply to let them speak it. To respect someone's opinion is only to acknowledge that you often agree with them, or to acknowledge that as an individual they are entitled to believe what they want. In neither case does it mean you have to change your own opinion to match anyone else's.
Thus, if you don'e listen to or resect another person's opinion, it indicates that you have no regard for them as individuals and you don't think their input merits any attention. It's just rude.
When someone proclaims that their opinion is the one you should hold, that's a diferent matter...

Listening to or respecting another opinion doesn't necessarily mean it's equally or more valid than yours. Nothing bad about getting other viewpoints though. You might change your opinion.

Why ask for it if you are not going to listen to it or respect it?
Listening and respecting someone's opinion isn't the same as agreeing with it or doing as they advise, it just means hearing another point of view with an open mind, and then forming your own opinion.

Hi....You actually don't but you might find out something 'new' that you didn't know before... Respect me as a fellow human being but you don't necessarily have to respect my opinion. One takes others opinion for what it's worth. One considers the source that the opinion is coming from. If you don't have respect in the person then naturally you won't have any respect for their opinions or suggestions...right?...lol..Have a great day!
