You should be comfortable depending on your tastes and needs for extras. The housing market of course is at an all-time high right now, prices are ridiculous. You may consider a condo until things change to ensure you live in a nice area. (prices can still be ridiculous right now in a mediocre area)
If you acquire your possessions (tv's, stereos, furniture, etc) at a steady rate rather than financing it and paying, you will find yourself doing quite well. I have done this over a period of five years and now have beautiful furniture and nice things all paid for. It's a great feeling...I own it!

Why do you want to skate through on the minimum? Don't you know who you are? Did you just believe those who never tried? Do you think luck or your lot in life has anything to do with it? I turn everyday tards into elite players, and for no charge EVER. All you need is the stones to act.
I will pay you very well to do a very simple thing, give my direct line to people you know and see every day. When this works, you will naturaly become more aggressive because all you need to do is give out the number. This is not networking. You don't snag your friends into this, and you don't need to spend a moment online, licking envelopes, or anything like that. If you are really good I'll invite you to work in my las vegas office and you can make serious bank.

Can you be disciplined with your financial habits? Are the housing costs in your area reasonable? If you can answer yes to the above questions and set a budget and stick with it (don't forget IRA/401K retirement plans in your budget planning) then there is no reason that you should not be able to live comfortably on 53k per year. If you want to live in Manhattan or downtown San Francisco that's another story. You will not be living large, but yes you can live comfortably...

The location plays a key role. I live in Southern CA, and let’s just say to live in a nice area, in an average home…….and lets say I’m married with two kids...and all the bills...I would calculate an income of at least $75,000 (yearly) and up is needed per spouse.

Choose your neighborhood and life style carefully
The opposite ends of this-- You couldn't survive in Manhatten on 53000, but you could live like a king in Mexico.
In St. Louis MO you could live comfortably, in a nice house and a nice neighborhood.

If you are somplace like LA, NYC or Boston, you'll live OK but probably not "a comfortable life". If you're in most places other than major cities, yes, it's comfortable if it's just you - if you have six kids, three in college, money will be very tight.

Depends on the life you are used to, where you plan to live, if you plan to raise a family on that, how much it will increase yearly for inflation.....
Lots of variables.

"Are you kidding me? my family of 3 lives on a salary of close to $30.000, and we are pretty comfortable. Of course we know how to live cheap-getting good bargains when we shop, and combining trips when we have to go somewhere.
