I don't allow myself to feel sorrow. If I do something that harm's someone else, or if my failure to act brings harm to someone, I am truly sorry and I do my best to make amends. But, once that's been done, I emotionally let it go. The past has passed, we can't change it...so why dwell on it?

I used to wash away my sorrows by drinking a lot, beer, rum, whiskey and vodka. I knew it was the wrong thing to do because I couldn't cope with the stress and pain from my work and my social life. It was terrible. Now, after maturing more for the past few years, I took a different route.

Why would we want to get rid of such a beautiful thing as sorrow? The gut wrenching, heart breaking, tear jerking… I mean listen to me we’re getting all existed just thinking about it. We enjoy our sorrow. Wallow in it bask in it. Doesn’t it feel good to feel so sorrowful? Once you catch that it’s hard to stay sorrowful.

Several years ago when I was going through the most traumatic sorrow of my long life, I read a lot of books about how the mind works and also the Buddhist concept of mindfulness. Basically you notice how your mind works so that you can observe it. I observed that my mind replayed the same horrible memories over and over until they lost their power to cause as much pain. Thus time heals. I also learned that refocusing one's thoughts on something else...counting trees...recalling safe memories...using various Buddhist techniques such as meditation and body scanning can help.
