Well, I for one completely understand where you are coming from. Although I've come to appreciate all of our little waspish friends, I used to be phobic. Once when I was little I layed on a wasp and was stung 6-7 times on the belly and chest and since that day I've been terrified of any flying stinging insect. Once I nearly jumped out of a moving car when a wasp flew in. I still don't like it when they do that, but at least I don't try to jump to my death now. Anyhow, like you, I wondered what use, what possible good could a wasp be. Why did they even exist? Well, once I started gardening I had to learn to work beside them and let me tell you it was hard. Just use your imagination. Anyhow, I decided enough was enough and I research every wasp I could think of. Well, I discovered that they are useful. They are pollinators, predatory and eat the bugs that eat my garden, and if you don't like spiders then you'll be happy to know that the sweet and docile little Mud Dauber absolutely loves spiders, Black Widows in particular. I also discovered that most wasps are harmless and would rather not be anywhere near me as well.
Do the research and you'll see how much we actually need wasps. They are an important part of our ecosystem and without them we'd be in trouble.
Hope this answers your question.

They are just as good at pollinating as bees. Also they eat aphids and other pests.
When they become a nuisance to us, they are at the end of their life span. They behave like they have just been released from prison with only 24 hours left to live.
All the fallen fruit that is laying on the grass fermenting is a free bar to a wasp. Like us after a few bevvies they get randy and so the females shag any male going to make sure there will be next years workers. Only the queen will survive, if she is lucky.
The rest just get drunk, have sex,and eat, then die.

One of their main food sources is the larvae of crane flies (known as leather jackets) they are horrible creatures both in their larvae and flying stage. Wasps implant their egg into the larvae after paralysing it and the baby wasp eats the thing from inside, how yuck is that. And I still hate wasps too.

annoying as they are, and as painfull as a stingmay be ...wasps are part of the ecological chain ..

Wasps are critically important in natural biocontrol. Almost every pest insect species has a wasp species that is a predator or parasite upon it. Parasitic wasps are also increasingly used in agricultural pest control as they have little impact on crops. Wasps also constitute an important part of the food chain.
