Best movie oscar winners, overrated movies?

Question

Who agrees with me that very often the winner of the academy award for best movie is an overrated film?

I mean for example, there's like a pattern that if it's a movie about gay people (not criticizing them), it tends to be nominated. Now, from what I've read there's a lot of gay people in the movie industry. Now, I think it's kind of unfair that because they indentify with the characters in a movie they dub it as the best. By saying that I mean that I think a lot of times they leave their personal interests or thoughts get in the way of an objective opinion.

What do you think? Please don't answer citing my example, it's just an example...

Mettle, I'm not going to give you a list cause it's just an example. I didn't want people to focus on the example. Neither did I say that example was absolute, what I'm saying is that in many cases the pictures that are picked as best movie have similar characteristics.

I guess it;'s more accurate to say the movies that are nominated for best movie...

1989- Driving Miss Daisy beat out Dead Poets Society?

1993- Schindlers list beat out The Piano?

1995-Braveheart beat out Il Postino, Apollo 13 and Sense and Sensibility What?

2003-Shakespeare In Love? All it's competitors were better movies. ( Elizabeth, Life is Beautiful, Saving Private Ryan, The Thin Red Line)

2004- Million Dollar Baby was good but i thought that Finding Neverland was a much better movie

There are quite a few gay people in the movie business but I don't think that sways judgment the only gay premised movie i can think of is Brokeback Mountain and it didn't even win?
I think peoples opinions are swayed buy boxoffice numbers and how critics perceive the movie not there own original opinion.

My suggestion for an overrated movie goes back a lot farther than just a few years. But way back in 1968, Mel Brooks' script for "The Producers" won the Oscar for Best Screenplay, which I thought was ridiculous. How on earth could so many Academy people have thought that "The Producers" was some kind of a great movie with a great script? Very overrated, IMO.

You seem to be talking about a couple different things. As far as movies that won Oscars that I might have felt should have gone to another contender, the only one that immediately comes to mind is ROCKY, which beat out TAXI DRIVER for Best Picture.

As far as there being a pattern where movies that depict gays get nominated for Best Picture, I guess I'd want to see your list. I don't see any such distinguishable pattern.

I don't really understand your reasoning for citing the example you did and then not being willing to back it up with a least some kind of actual movie titles, but whatever... it's your question.

Moonstruck won for best picture, totally overrated and beat out a now classic Good Morning Vietnam.

Many years the best picture does not win, who thnks that these were good movies:
2003 Lord of the Rings - a sleeping aid
2002 Chicago - over hyped
1999 American Beauty
1993 Schlindler's list
1990 Dances with Wolves - you've got to be kidding me

I would not buy a copy of any of the above movies and I have a large collection of movies.

I think both "Crash" and "American Beauty" were insanely overrated.
