I have been in all our states at one time or another... some of them more than a few times. Ive spent the last 20 years as an over the road truck driver so Ive seen allot of every state out there. (Including Alaska and Hawaii)
I have favorite states in several categories....

For general niceness of people, I love Iowa... the people there are just downright neighborly.

For ease of getting around... Nothing beats Texas...there is an interstate or major highway going just about anywhere you'd like to go in that state.

For the historical value, I like Virginia... something happened in about every square foot of that state worth knowing about.

For sheer beauty of the state, I have several winners... Utah and its southern canyons and bluffs, Oregon and Idaho for their volcanic formations, W. Virgina for its fall colors, Colorado for its mountains majesty, Washington for its temperate rain forests.

But my all time favorite is Wisconsin. Despite its political troubles, high taxes, and bad reputation as a bunch of beer swilling cheese heads, The people are intelligent, and in most cases pleasing to look at. And other than Sydney Aus. Ive never seen a better city scape from a bay... Downtown Milwaukee from out on Lake Michigan is a wondrous sight to behold.

ps: The Geographic Foundation states that to qualify to be called a mountain, the elevation at the peak has to be over 2000ft above sea level... NY has hills....

I think I would like North Carolina. They have a moderate climate, beautiful scenery and freedom loving people with class. They are in a good location for an easy commute to other areas. I've never lived there so i can't say for sure.

For environment, my true love is Hawaii. I lived there for six years in the 1970's. For economic and logistic reasons, I don't think it is wise for me to make it my permanent home.
