i understood it to be "its not the end of the world..." as in get over it or life goes on

It sounds like a facetious comment. He is trying to make the point that whatever is the end of the world is indeed very important, but says it in a way that appears to be the opposite. In short he is saying, stop complaining about it; it's not that important; but he means it is important.
