An interview with Mark Williams-Thomas.

You have to admit, he has a point.

Read it all, twice if you have to.

Portugal.

Where did the PJ's send Joana's forensics then?

Don't you find the allegation that the police said Joana caught her mum & her mums own brother sh@gging a bit sick? Twisted and verging on perverse?

That is one sick allegation to make.

Your link is the worst you could come up with. The opinion published is dumb, ill-conceived and biased in the most atrocious manner. Sky News stood by the MacCanns from day one, no doubt from profit considerations, even airing obviously false information with the intent of protecting the parents and chauvinistically sticking with the Brits. The Empire is gone, but colonial thinking is still high with them. And Portugal, is easy to see, is a 5th world country, so can we believe and trust their judicial system? WASP's have contempt for any other culture, so no wonder. The Portuguese are "half-caste" in the the words of a classic English writer.

"What I have difficulty in understanding is they would have killed her and stored her body for at least 25 days and left no evidence." Isn't the case that turned them into "arguidos", that evidence does exist?

"two children who are unknown to each other have been abducted or disappeared within a period of four years in a seven-mile radius." This is a statistical argument, and people do disappear in geographical areas independent of previous crimes.

"A photograph of her heavily-bruised face was published in Portuguese newspapers." Yes? Which newspapers, at what dates? This statement is simply false.

"Police claimed Joana discovered Cipriano and her brother having sex when she returned with the groceries.

They said the pair were afraid Joana would tell what she saw and killed her."

The conviction of brother and sister having incestuous relations relied on a tape made by the the police of the brother confessing to the crime and guiding investigators through several steps of the crime. The court, that discussed whether that proof was admissible, saw no evidence of torture or illegal intimidation to produce the tape. Both brother and sister simply shied away from confessing what they had done with the corpse. One theory, simple speculation, is that they cut up the body and fed it to the hogs. Would anyone confess to this?

In other words Joana has nothing to do with Madeleine.

"This may be some solace to the McCanns, but then Portuguese courts may have a different conviction rate to UK courts." May have. May. If they do is it of any relevance?

I do agree that it may be difficult to get a conviction if the body is not found.

It wasn't an allegation.
The woman's father knew of the incest going on with his two kids and testified in court against his own daughter.
They went to court and were found guilty, so I don't see what this guys point is.
That happened 3 years ago. Also, there was 45 witnesses who testified against the mother, saying Joana used to be constantly abused and treated as a slave.

"Portugal is a small country with very, very few abductions so two young girls vanishing out of thin air with their bodies never being recovered is something that needs to be investigated."

He said it all in this statement. So clearly statistically speaking she would not have been abducted because it is so rare in this area. I do agree however they should have gone after the parents more so in the beginning but with all the press and making them into saints maybe that made them shy away from them. Which is wrong to do but still. We are talking a small country going after upper class British citizens.

I'm not entirely convinced that the two incidents have anything to do with each other, but I would agree with Mark Williams-Thomas that any police officer under investigation for forcing confessions in a child abduction case should not have anything to do with the Madeleine case. That's basic professionalism, and if the police in Portugal expect the world to give them any credibility, then they would choose their investigators more carefully!

I'm starting to have huge doubts about the police in the case. I was one who did think that the Mccanns were guilty (without trial) now I'm starting to wonder whether the police are making them a scape goat. (Never thought I'd say it, but there you go)
