If you are not for amnesty I suggest you tell your Senator today.

Man, you Dem supporters are hilarious, not a single one of you answered the question, what a riot, and what a bunch of brainwashed fools, they promise you something, lying of course, and then you blindly vote for them again. You people are unbelievable.

Sherilynne B is exactly right! Stop fighting about who supports the bill and who doesn't and make sure that they all know whoever supports the bill, Dem or Rep WILL be voted out of office. They are all selling our country out to the highest bidder and only we can stop it.

Follow the link and sign the petition. Write to and call your congressmember and senators today.

Greetings. where in the world do people get the idea that our government in the U.S. is a representative of the people? out of some fantasy book? It has never represented the people since its inception. the people were allowed to fight and die to drive the Brits out. But they were not allowed to have any representation in the government. that was totally limited to Englishmen with money and who owned land. everyone else was excluded then. now? the government represents its self and its wealthy business contributors and controllers, not us. I recall a very close cartoon from a long time ago. it was in Pogo. The Possum in the swamp. A raccoon was talking to his son, a young Raccoon. the son asked what is democracy? the father replied when the people make all the important decisions it is a democracy. the little Raccoon asked. You mean like if we go to war, or have to pay half of everything we earn in taxes? or what is taught in our schools? the poppa raccoon said no. the really important stuff. do we elect brand X or brand Y. what color shoes will we wear. What kind of burger do we want. the really important stuff. talking about politics is like arguing about most anything else. total waste of time. as is writing a criminal representative in our government and telling them that you do not like them being a criminal. Lots of luck there. all of the higher people in government have already violated their oaths that were sworn on the bible when they were put into office. why expect them suddenly to become law abiding and do the job they are being paid for? Not much chance of that, but it will give you something to do as you wait for our secret police to beat down your door and haul you off at least.

Each Congressional District conains about 1 million voters.

Each congress-critter "represents" those voters.

Now, mathematically, each congressman could not devote more than one minute to each voter -- IF that congressman were to spend the entire year just communicating with the represented.

We no longer have a lower House, we have two layers of Senate.

To get back to a representative democracy, the number of districts would have to be increased by a factor of ten.

Otherwise, Congress pays attention to dollars, not voters.

The Democrats, as a class, are even worse. Their voting habits display a far greater regard for the party than the country.

Because, much like their counterparts in the Repub party, they are nothing more than self-serving pond scum that is interested in one thing and one thing only: power over others!
I agree with the other writers who say Dem or Rep doesn't matter. Our country is being sold down the river. We need to contact all of these bastards and let them know we do not want AMNESTY for illegals!

Amnesty is Bush's idea and since neither party has a clear majority it is impossible for either of them to "sneak" through a bill as it will need the support of both parties.

Again, you (like countless other Cons) have no clue when you place the sole blame for this on Dems. Bush fully supports Amnesty as well. Since you are (obviously) not a Dem, maybe instead of whining here about Dems you should contact the White House and your Republican pols.

Amnesty? sure! And why we are at it, why dont we let out all those incarcerated right now for simple drug offenses. They could be out mowing someones lawn instead. Immigrants should always be welcome. But everyone here needs to be accounted for in some way and that requires processing. No cutsies in linesies. Get behind everyone else who wants in.

The Dem's have their hands tied still. They only have a "simple majority" and have to face veto's by Mr. screwball. I believe they represent their constituency but are tried and tried from the ignoramuses of the republican party!

Well, the same goes for the Republicans. I think a better question is why won't our government listen to the people it is supposed to represent and who are its bosses? I do contact my elected officals and I do keep up with local politics. I let them know what I am unhappy and I also suggest solutions that would be acceptable to me.

I don't know. I can only suppose that it's because they don't represent us. They just want our votes on election day and they are counting on us to not know what's going on, not care what's going on, and not remember what's going on if we are aware. They should be going through the impeachment process with Bush and Cheney.
