Please don't try this! I know 2 woman who tried this and they both had severe complications with their babies after giving birth. Both of their babies passed their meconium, and ingested it. The babies were very sick. Just let labor take its natural course. Try going for a long walk, but don't try this! I wish you the best of luck.

Unless directly supervised by your doctor or midwife, taking Castor oil is not recommended. The intended purpose of Castor oil is a laxative so you could very likely experience diarrhea, vomiting, cramping, and dehydration if you take it. The theory is the cramping may help kick-start contractions, but that does not necessarily mean the contractions will be productive. There are also preliminary studies that suggest taking Castor oil may increase the risk of your baby passing meconium before birth which can put your baby in danger of inhaling the meconium filled fluid which in turn can lead to infection and breathing difficulties. I was not willing to take that risk with my babies. I am mom to 4 children who were all born past their due dates. I tried many things to get labor started - sex, nipple stimulation, driving down bumpy dirt roads, eating spicy food, scrubbing floors on my hands and knees, and lots of walking. The walking was the only thing that was actually suggested by my doctor and did seem to help a little with my second born. I lost my mucous plug and had contractions with him for 25 hours before he made his appearance. I suggest you skip the Castor oil and the possibility of spending most of your labor on the toilet and try some walking instead.

Honey its Castor oil! I only say as the other is something you put in a car!
To induce contractions or to make them heavier you can...
Walk up and down stairs.
Have sex... no not kidding! An orgasm is a contraction and it sets the real ones off.
Have a curry, the after effects of needing the loo cause the bowels to contract and thus the pelvic ones begin also.
The castor oil does the same thing and "loosens" the bowels. It takes a few hours to work as your body digests it.Women usually take a tablespoon full.

Some of these things work for some women, I hope you find the one that works for you. If you continue as you are or are worried in any way go back to your Dr.

Good luck. xx

Some say it works, others will tell you to wait it out and the baby will come on his or her own (because usually when people take castor oil they get really, really bad poops, cramping, ect). A friend of mine took the stuff and she kept having really bad bowel movements and messed her pants quite a few times, plus messed up the bed when she took it to induce and she was 39 wks. She was in a lot of pain too. So I wouldn't reccomend it. IK know I'm not going to take the stuff because I've heard very bad experiences from it.

hmm....I wouldn't do it...since castor oil is a laxative, it stimulates your colon and cause it to contract, you will be in more discomfort than you are already in, plus you will be in the bathroom alot (loose stool) and the risk of dehydration isn't worth it.

The idea of the castor oil is if your colon is contracting, that your uterus will follow suit, but it's never been definitively proven and the risks far outweigh the benefits.

it will cause contractions but may not start labor. it will also give you the runs and make the baby have meconium (poop) in utero, which can be dangeroug if the baby inhales it. i tried it twice before i knew all of this and it made me cramp really bad and poop but it did not start labor. i wouldn't do it again !

Unless you like violent poop cramps & sitting on the toliet for ever then I would not suggest you drink castor oil. Plus the stuff taste really really gross!

It gives you the runs, I reaaaally don't recommend it. If you're already having contractions, just wait it out, don't try to force it along.
