For many years Ford has had transmission problems, best to contact a reputable transmission shop.
Does it go into reverse when the engine is or is not running?
Have you checked your transmission linkage?
Does it require you to have your foot on the brake pedal at the same time?
Have there been any red puddles under the vehicle?
Have you checked you fluid levels?

Maybe. It depends on the difference between fixing it, putting in a rebuilt transmission or putting in an aftermarket transmission.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NOT DOING ANY GOOD.
