I have felt for a very long time (I am 65, male) that most sports if not all are fixed..Take basketball, how may times have you seen one team winning by 25 points but down to the last 2 - 3 minutes the game is tie.....Football you always see a pass or a run that should have been made is not. Baseball , the score is close with the bases loaded two out and 2 strikes on the batter, the next pitch is a CALLED third strike. These people are suppose to be making so much money are should be good ball players yet this happens. Is it the refs, the coachs, the players or is it just plain luck....Well I do not believe it is luck, one or more has turned a win to a loss.. With the refs in basketball and the problem with camers in football and the drugs in baseball there are a lot of problems in sports.....It has driven me away from pro basketball and football. I use to love baseball but it is started to drive me away also.. DOES ANYONE ELSE FEEL THE SAME WAY AS I DO ??????

Yes. It's mostly about the "point spread" -- which is illegal, yet published in 90% of US newspapers. Go figure, eh? Every TV and radio sports-yapper gets info from NFL press-releases to best make their "picks" BASED on the spread, and not just simply to WIN. Notice? I believe the $$$ in-take is tallied, using polling in Vegas -- and the desired outcome (to the benefit of the bookies 60% of more of the time) is ordered maybe during the games, by simply allowing ONE team to select plays over the other team's play-calling, which makes the Belichek scandal (and the NFL not forfeiting/suspending him/throwing him out) very, very, very interesting...

I strongly believe that in 1969, in the NFL... that Pete Rozelle figured all this out -- that the BILLION-dollar businesss of TV media/stations, gambling and sports attendance (he'd never understand how fantasy-online football & merchandising & putting your team's uniform on a Rap star... could make more $$$ than game-attendence!!

I know this so-called sport -wrestling- is fixed and scripted. I NEVER watch or attend any pro boxing events-they are fixed. I don't care who says what. I'm with you-I shake my head at some of the "ghost" fouls in pro basketball as well as ball and strike calls in pro baseball.
Football it's a difficult call due to how fast action is. Sure, replays may show a ref's mistake, it's the human factor. Calling balls and strikes doesn't take a mental giant.
I've lost interest in NASCAR, quit going. Why? To many "ghost yellows" to bunch the field. I spend my money else where. Oh yaeh, I'm 64.

While I might agree that scandal has plagued all sports since their respective inceptions, I find it hard to believe that they are rigged. Sports have always depended upon the objectivity of their referees/umpires. "Ghost fouls" are simply bad calls. It is easy for us to criticize after seeing 25 reruns from every angle on SportsCenter the next day. Sports also depend on the athletes themselves. If Derrick Jeter is tired and hung over his play may not peak until the 8th inning, making the end of the game much more interesting. You also have to take nerves into account. I know that in an intense game, even a fan can get excited. One can only imagine the effects on an athlete "playing the game" in front of thousands of people. Again, I understand that recent events might taint the integrity of sports, but integrity cannot be measured by the shortcomings of a handful of people.

you may not like me for my answer, but with the media and curiosity of the people, professional sports could never get away with fixing. you see people hurt all the time, you see players dead in practice...thats not a fixed game. i always thought WWF and such was fixed, and i think this might just be an exception

Basketball in my opinion is the best sport in the world and I'm from the wrestling section for everyone's information. I like wrestling more than basketball but it doesn't mean that wrestling is better.

I've certainly had some bad feelings about it, especially in the NBA and recently, but I sure hope they're not fixed on a large scale.
