My parents are buying a house for the first time, they paid for a surveyor (£300) to look at the property when they had their offer accepted (3mnths ago) now they are about to exchange contracts but their solicitors are telling them to pay another £300 for another survey, is this normal or are they trying to make extra cash?
The solicitor arranged the first survey.

This is normal, most surveys are only valid for three months as a lot can happen in that amount of time like flooding and the such. Some surveys can be valid for up to six months, if they have a copy of the survey with the surveyors details on it they should get in touch with them direct and find out.

Do you mean survey, or appraisal. In Texas, USA the appraisals (estimate of current value) are valid for up to six months. A survey (drawing of lot, fence lined, easements and structures as well as cement and pools on property) is good for as long as no changes have been made - indefinitely.
