Because it sells in your part of the world, as well as many other parts of the world.
Two things. One, smart, well behaved and educated Americans don't make for good news across the pond.
Two, the news reports the news, not the truth.
Americans acting like idiots sells in your part of the world. Stupid Brits don't have any audience or want with the American public. We do seem to portray some Brits as the bad guy in movies over here, but perhaps that's just because you're all so smart and evil to begin with, and you play the part so well!!!

Sid-do I detect a change of heart? You've posted some incredible diatribes that manage to air just about every prejudice.
If you're in America doing business, then I KNOW you KNOW that the vast majority of my people are decent, down-to-earth, friendly types who are bored to death by anything that isn't happening immediately. As for their obliviousness to the rest of the world, we have hard enough time with 2 weeks vacations a year to see our vast country from "sea to shining sea." I noticed recently in Europe that if somewhat farted in Amsterdam, they smelled it in London. Americans like space.
That's no reason to build concentration camps for them, is it? Here's a radical idea, let's ALL be friends. OK? After all, the apple never falls far from the tree, now does it, and England is our motherland!

Press in America is not the only thing which is really bad. Beside the press there are many other things which are awful in the US. In my opinion nowadays US is a very sick country with an extremely sick society.
I very much agree with an answer given by Calum A. Numerous useful idiots instead of answering questions on it's subject, try to give grammar spelling lessons. Very much funny and incredibly stupid on part of the American people.

When I was a schoolchild in infant and junior school, there was always a 'bad boy' of the class; he got blamed for everything and everyone used to raise their eyebrows and 'tut tut' (even at that age!). Never mind the fact that he could be generous and thoughtful at times, the rest of us took comfort in the fact that we were 'better' than he was becasue we weren't so 'naughty'. Well ........America is the present-day 'bad boy'! (And so, of course, by default, are all Americans!).

We are often judged by our government and currently this government is unpopular in the world (and this country).
I spent several years in Europe ( in the 90s), I don't really know the perception today like I did then. I would see a lot of Americans who would not try to even say "thank you" in the language of the country where they were. They weren't being rude just it never occured to many of them... people thought it was rude though. Also, Europeans are very attuned to American politics but we don't make an attempt to really know their politics (but we certainly express our opinions about them).
I'll say this though (and maybe its because these are my people)... Americans are tend to be more gracious and inviting than a lot of Europeans... boorish for sure, but they are very curious in a individual person and this puts alot of Europeans off.

You "very own" individuals? Hmm, this is unusual. anyhow, individuals get a foul press beacuse of our government (specifically Bush) and because many human beings in different worldwide places are ignorant and have self assurance sterotypes approximately individuals because of the fact they have maximum in all threat in no way met an American (gazing a action picture does not count extensive variety) and that they have got in all threat in no way been to the u . s . a ..

I think the Roman Empire caught some bad press during their day as well. It does'nt mean the Romans themselves were all bad people though. I think there will always be some form of resentment toward whatever country happens to be the world power.

Don't confuse the way we feel about some goverment officials with the way we feel about our countrymen and women
being American is kinda like family ~ we fight with our brothers and sisters all day long, but at the end of the day we'll die for each other
