Dehydration. Thats what causes the squirming. The salt absorbs the moisture. The salt also reacts with their fragile skins, causing it to tear apart.
Ever noticed how their bodies turn pulpy, and mushy if you sprinkle too much salt on them.

coz their skin is very thin and full of big pores, salt gets into their system through fast osmosis.
Have you ever tried putting some salt on a bleeding wound of yours. You would squirm same as they do.

It kills slugs. Worms are good for the soil and they are good for fishing so why are you sprinkling salt on worms?

since worms are mostly water, salt abosorbs water and it dyhydrates them and makes sick.....so i guess thats it
