Iraq, 2003 until now, has been considered the Secretary of Defense's turf, but now that things are less in flux and leaders have emerged to negotiate, it makes sense that the Secretary of State should take on a larger role...

Don't forget the distinguished Ryan Clark Crocker is now the US ambassador to Iraq. He has spent his adult life serving the US State Department in the Middle East.
