do all orchid's need to be put in sunlight part of the day?

actually they like filtered sun most of the day if possible.

I keep mine near a window on the South side of the house. This gives them indirect sun and they seem to grow well.

I keep mine in curtian filtersed light in an east facing window so that it gets the morning sun.
