I've been working for this company for over a year now, im the only female in my department.
I'm treated like a worthless piece of crap. I'm constantly being called a b*tch, a knowledgeless child, etc...all by my ego driven boss. This is a very small company so it's almost impossible to go to an HR rep or Owner to ask for help without being laughed at.
I am currently started to document all harrassment and asking each time i'm called a name, for him to stop.
I;m just curious on what to do, driving to work each morning makes me sicker than a dog knowing im going to be called names and blamed for all the companies issues when i have nothing to do with them...what should i do?...
This is the best paying job for my field in the area, i love doing what i do, but not the situation im in.

Documentation is always good. Try to bear it as much as you can as you gather more information/evidence. Harassment just because you're the only woman in your department is something that shouldn't be tolerated, but right now, you have a mission.

In fact, I'd recommend that you get some of that harassment actually caught on tape somehow. So if you have one of those phones that have video or audio recording capability, I suggest that this would be a good time to use it DISCREETLY (catch the brutes in their natural environment! Haha!). And remember not to provoke anything, and make sure that you have done everything in your capacity (via non-violent or threatening means... remember, you're the victim asking for support here) to try to get them to stop.

Also, I suggest that you also approach women's rights groups since I think that they may be able to offer you some free legal assistance if it really gets down to that.

good luck!

what you are dealing with is a hostile work place....that is against the law
I'm guessing you don't want to own the company just make it go away....

here is what you need to know. If you ingage in foul speech at the workplace, winning your case is going to be very difficult to do. also, a picture is worth a thousand words.

I'm guessing you want to win this thing and keep working there. I will tell you that you might win, but the harrassement can change for the worse.

I would get a camera that is descrete, and videotape your treatment and save it to disk. I would get several days of this, not just a single moment. there are a lot of people out there who have cameras if you don't have one, a digital that takes movies and records sound is best.

you can use a black box, that is some object that has material pulled tight over it to hide the camera if you are being mistreated at your desk. If not, carry the camera in something that keeps it invisible and allows it to see. DO NOT BE OBSERVED DOING THIS, as the enemy can change tactics and forge fake charges against you.

I have seen people try to bring forward a case only to have theft charges placed against them before they had really documented anything.....Have your documentation before you do anything.....very important. if it comes to that, it is not a matter of you committing a crime, it is why did they not deal with you doing something until you brought your case forward. That is a felony, called retaliation.

okay, you have your documentation, call your city, (get this for free) and ask for the Equal Opportunity advisor, and state that you have some questions and need guidance where to go.
ask questions of the EE advisor to find state representation as well as any federal assistance.

then, present your case though that system so you are not out any cash, and you are able to find another job.

I would not stay there, you will be treated badly...if you were my sister, I'd go visit the guy myself and explain to him, but i'm not, and i'm feeling rather like confrontational right now.

was reading about terrorism last night, makes me mad!

good luck,

Well you have already received plenty good advice, similar to what I would have suggested. I would definitely recommend that you continue to document this and file for harassment. It is against the law for an employer or anyone else working in the company to treat you in such a manner. You definitely have a case. I would publicly expose him for the asshole that he is. Be sure that while you are in the process of doing all of this you are looking for another job. Good luck and keep me updated on the outcome. Just don't back down. You have rights, and two of those rights are to be treated equally and be respected. You deserve nothing less and you shouldn't settle for it. Oh yeah also they have lawyers who do free consultation they could give you an idea of what you can do.

You need to report this company to the better business bureau, and also the attorney general in your area. There is no need to stay in this situation. You can also file a suit for discrimination in your area. You are being harassed and no one needs to endure that at any cost.
I'm sure there is a place in your city/town to do file the necessary complaints against those people doing this to you.. Get everything in writing. If you love what you do so much ask yourself this question, would you do it and not get paid for it. That is the best way to decide. You also need to be in your own business not make someone else wealthy. Open up your own business perhaps from home doing the same thing. Are you aware of the huge tax benefits of being in a home based business? They are awesome. There is no need of ANYONE experiencing what you have to go through daily for something you love, especially for someone else. The only way to become the most successful is to be in business for yourself.

Oh, it makes me angry to hear about you being treated this way!
You know it's illegal. See if you can access a free legal service or union that covers your industry if you can't afford or don't know a lawyer.
You should continue to document the harrassment and your requests that it stop, as well as reactions to your request.

You should go see your GP to document your stress reactions and follow the doctor's advice.

You should also look for a different job - even if it means a little less money in the short term - NOTHING is worth the damage to your sense of self that this kind of thing can do...

(Have you tried taping them? Ask your lawyer about that one!)

If you have the time, money and patience, continue on your path of filing paperwork, get some of those rantings on tape! You'll win!!!

My opinion, get the hell out of there! Find a lower paying job that does not make you sicker than a dog to walk into!!!! Life is too short to have to deal with that!!! I wouldn't stay for anything! Do you really love your job that much? You've only been there a year! Get out now!

Take your concerns to your boss's BOSS. Go to the top, sweetie, the real big dogs will be interested in preventing harassment litigation and getting rid of an abusive administrator.
