Agamemnon's wife. (By the way, the name is usually spelled "Clytemnestra.") Agamemnon tricked Clytemnestra into sending their daughter Iphegenia to him as he waited to launch his ships toward Troy. Clytemnestra thought Iphegenia was to be married, but when the girl arrived, Agamemnon sacrificed her to Poseidon, to get fair winds for his fleet. Needless to say, Clytemnestra was not pleased about this! When Agamemnon returned from the war, years later, Clytemnestra and her lover murdered him in revenge for his murder of Iphegenia. Then their son Orestes ended up revenging his father by murdering his mother and her lover. So the Furies pursued Orestes until he appealed to the gods basically saying, "you require that family members avenge the murder of other family members, so you can't persecute me for spilling my mother's blood, because I was following your rules." The whole mess was Agamemnon's fault--he was too eager to sack Troy, and he used the kidnapping of Helen as an excuse to do it, even murdering his own daughter to achieve his goal. I feel sorry for Clytemnestra--maybe Agamemnon deserved what he got!
