I tried power washing mine - bad idea as it's a real messy job and and washes out the gravel inbetween. I now put plenty of cheap bleach into a watering can diluted with water of course and then cover the stones and then let the weather take over. It does the job a treat. I don't use a scrubbing brush as it's a large area and too much like hard work and I have found that I don't need to do that. After that it's just a case of keeping on top of the job.

There's lots of proprietary products for doing this, lots seem to be citric acid based. If you don't want to use unfamiliar chemicals, try a little bleach in water and scrub with a stiff yard broom then rinse with clean water...uses calories and gets you a clean slab without using gallons of drinking water.

Buy one of those pump up sprayers. They are 1 and 2 gal. I put about 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap and 1 cup bleach. Wet the slabs first with your hose. Pump it up, spray it on,and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then rinse well with hose.

Use a product called Patio Magic. Mix it in a watering can, water it on and leave it. It naturally eats it's way through the dirt and grime. You should not wash it off, what could be easier.
