Since when is it the governments responsibility to monitor what people eat and limit free enterprise? Do gooders in LA have initiated a petition to stop building new fast food joints for 2 years. Why, people are getting fat. Is this really where we need government controls?

Well, this is interesting and your question is a valid one.

However, one of the main spin offs of 'socialized medicine' is the responsibility government would then assume of controlling more of what you do and how you live your life. Their rationale would, perhaps justifiably, be that the government would save millions of dollars a year on medical costs if folks didn't eat at McDonalds. Or if folks didn't eat pizza. If government is paying the medical bills, they'll have a far greater leg to stand on when they demand Americans make life style changes. And don't think they won't flex that leg. They do it now, as you've pointed out, with far less cause or justification.

Socialized medicine WILL mean HUGE government intrusion into your life, both public and private. In essence, they'll own your body, what you do with it and will make laws accordingly.

Should they do that, it will be challenged constitutionally by one of the major food chains if not all. They will lose as well as they should. Not governments responsibility to monitor where we eat, or limit access.

I think its totally illegal! What happened to the pursuit of happiness? There is nothing illegal about fast food restaurants so how can they be banned. This would never hold in a court of law. At least I would hope not.

I'd be happy if folks took a bit more control of the architecture and style of our cities...

Fast-food joints are hideous, and the sprawling "strip-mall" that the US has become is generic and unappealing...

Functional cities work best by design and foresight, and not by the whimsy of developers and cheap construction.

No. And I don't want Big Government inspecting my meat anymore either. So what if it is diseased. If I get sick I can always go to Cuba for free medical care.
