I don't think that Iraq had been calm over the past few weeks because of the surge.

Its because General Petraeus and Ryan Crocker gathered local support from the Sunnis who did attack US forces during the early years of the invasion. Primarily to fight against Al Queda.

And Shia leader ceased his militia's operations against US forces.

Guess that enabled operations against Al Queda to be easier.

What's everybody's agenda here?

grips...
I never said that I want the troops to stay there.
The occupation was preventing the Iraqis to seek dialogue within themselves.
Its Bush's leadership that I had always been critical off.
I was critical of the Iraq invasion from the beginning, because I knew a lot of bad things are going to happen.
More than half a million Iraqis dead now.
Understand my point now?

They were scheduled to come home anyway as part of the plan when the surge was put into affect. He's just using it to claim "success" and try to hold onto support for his agenda until he can dump it off onto the next President.

Why does Bush want to cut troop levels in Iraq? >>

Because he agrees with the recommendation of Petraeus.

The fact is, we can't maintain the troop levels that we have in Iraq right now.

Bush has no intention of leaving Iraq while he is in office.

Looked at your profile. For the last 6 months you've been against troops being in Iraq-----now you don't want to bring any of them home. Make up your mind, will ya!!!

MY mistake. Maybe you weren't against troops being there----you were against the US being there--------that means our troops!!!

here's what i think. i think he'll gradually pull out troops, and then when the iraqis think we are all gone, he'll re-launch the invasionary force and take them by surprise....at least that's what i would do...

He is following his military advisors that are there. Not listening to the biased media.
