The description that I've been given by an alcoholic friend is that it's easier to deal with life through a haze, to make everything fuzzy is good because it dulls all the feelings that they experience. So drunk when he used to drink he just didn't feel the pain until the buzz wore off...

Alcohol is an anethesia to the pain. It is easy to attain and quick in action. For a few hours, problems are forgotten. It is a needed break in order to regroup one's thoughts, albeit a negative way in searching for a break. There are always alternative ways to relax, calm down, and solve the problems.
Alcohol is temporary. When the effects wear off, the pain is still present and nothing has been solved.

I drink when I have issues and everyone that has answered is right. ITs great right then but when you sober up its usually worse. Especially with me because then I have anxiety. Its very easy to turn to the bottle when you have pain that you want to escape. It sucks though, really bad!!
