The right-wing, specifically neoconservatives, do not necessarily want a truly liberal democracy in Iraq but rather a puppet regime in place that is most beneficial to the needs and desires of its American sponsors. A truly democratic Iraq would most likely "backfire" on the neocons' ambitions; just look what happened in the Palestinian territories when Hamas won a huge mandate in parliamentary elections. Thus, Americans would set up the system in which those candidates or blocs closely aligned with US interests would get a huge advantage over the rest of the pack.

Because if you're going to invade a country for whatever reasons and topple the leadership in the process, you may as well replace it with something somewhat nicer. It wouldn't cost any more than if you installed another tyrant. It also makes your political views look better... sometimes.

For those doubtful, Iraq is indeed a liberal democracy - it has free, fair elections and a government that doesn't go around denying people their basic rights. Shame they've got the whole war going on around them.

True liberalism is a great thing when it is blended with true conservatism for moderation.

Contemporary liberals or “progressives” (the loudest ones in America at least) have swung so far to the Left that, in the context of your question, Liberal Democracy = Marxism.

Our nations Republic was based on the constitution which was developed to prevent radical governments such as socialism or communism or fascism.

Contemporary liberals or “progressives” call the constitution a “living, breathing” document because they want to interpret and shape it to fit their Marxist utopian worldview.

In my opinion because you can't have one without the other, there has to be a balance of both. Governments fall with out a balance.

'creating a democracy in iraq' is a joke - I can gaurantee they all get a big laugh out if it from time to time.
