Indeed, yes, it was 1941. A special session of the United States Congress convened on Monday, 12/8/41, and almost unanimously (one nay vote) declared war on the Empire of Japan. On 12/11/41, Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S. and on that same day, the U.S. responded with its own declarations against them. Though Axis members Bulgaria and Hungary declared war on the U.S. on 12/12/41, as well as Romania on the 13th, the U.S. did not respond to them in kind until 6/2/42
