Re 'Herrings water'....

Places in the UK include Herringswell, Herringfleet, Fishpool, Fishponds..

Only a guess, since I do not know if your crossword is purely Kent based or not, nor how many letters/words are involved.

Re 'Hang healthy horse'.... Are there places in Kent which include any of the following 'fit', 'tenter', 'lynch' 'nag', 'tenter'?

Or perhaps it's Swingfield???

[To hang is to 'swing', and a horse is part of the 'field of runners'? That's about all I can think of with my limited knowledge of Kent.]

Good luck, anyway, with your efforts!

Next day... Thank you "Aces 'n' eights" for explaining that it is _not_ a crossword. I now feel a comprehensive Gazeteer would be helpful to the questioner!

Its helpful to know its NOT A CROSSWORD. Its a cryptic clue quiz with answers that lead you to place names. One of the other clues was 'a number of trees', the answer being Sevenoaks. And thanks to a posting last week I'm STILL trying to get herring's water and now the horse one as well.
Gimme time, I'll get 'em.

Is this any help? I found a site that lists all the towns in Kent. It'll save you staring at a map.
