I have a new home and my toilet's handle worked perfectly fine up until now. Right now, my toilet's handle is really stiff, so I either have to push on it really hard, or I have to lift up the lid and flush it manually. Tips and advice would be appreciated.

Remove the tank top and check the chain or rubber strap going from the tank handle lever to the flapper valve. If this is free of binding and the handle is still tight, then loosen the nut that holds the handle to the tank enough till the handle moves freely. These are the only things that would bind up the handle to make it difficult to operate.

Depending on your ability I would disconnect the lift chain from the tank flapper and then try your handle and see if it is still stiff. If it is then the trouble is in the handle where it connects at the tank.(Rare).
If that doesn't seem to be your problem you may want to turn off your toilet water supply. It's usually at the back and bottom of toilet. Reconnect lift arm chain to flapper and again attempt to raise and lower flapper. You should be able to determine what's causing it to bind. Usually the arm or chain is twisted somehow. You can do it!

I agree with disconnecting the chain/strap and trying the handle. Most are now made of plastic and it may have broken. You can buy new handles seperately. Be aware, the nut that holds the handle on is a left-handed thread so turn it in the opposite direction of most threaded items.
