You've got great list going there, I would have no problems seeing any of those.

Your question as to what makes movies memorable; gotta have great story with matching script & can't do one without the other, not well anyway.

Casting has to be believable and the characters have to have something that the audience can identify with otherwise they won't care what happens to the character, so why bother watching if you don't care. Great movies have characters with great chemistry and charisma, Sean Connery has it in spades, if he didn't he could never play Irish Cops & Russian sub captains without the accent jarring our viewing. Kevin Costner (loved Dances with Wolves), in Robin Hood, enjoyable movie but his accent kept interrrupting my viewing pleasure, so Alan Rickman stole it.

I guess the age you are can influence certain feelings about certain films. The freshness of an idea, approaches that haven't been seen before, the advances of technology that can enhance a movie or even make it possible. Great direction & great music can turn simple stuff into magic. Moments like the one in Shawshank where he puts that record of the opera duet and all the inmates listen, could have been so cheesy but was saved by fab music and good acting.

So films that impressed me that I like to see again?
Shawshank Redemption, Lord of the Rings trilogy, 12 Angry Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, Rear Window, Star Wars, ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark, All the President's Men, Some Like it Hot, West Side Story, Witness (that was a fresh idea setting murder within Amish community), Pulp Fiction....that's a few to be going on with, if I don't stop now I'll just keep adding to it.

Cheers, Kuta. XX

Gone with the Wind
Wizard of Oz
Little Women
Shawshank Redemption
The Thomas Crown Affair (Pierce Brosnan remake)
Evita
The Virgin Suicides

I think what makes movies memorable are the ones that have characters that you can relate with, a great storyline that leaves an impression on you (can leave you thinking about the movie days after watching it), and great dialogue. Sometimes I think just having fun is enough, if you can catch yourself smiling throughout the film even after the first viewing then you know it's a good movie.

I have to agree with all your choices and now for a few of my own:

The Shawshank Redemption
Blade Runner
The Usual Suspects
Very Bad Things
True Romance
Kill Bill 1/2
Se7en
Memento

For me, a good movie needs an interesting plot that you can't predict or see through like the Sixth Sense, I still don't get how people didn't realise he was dead!!!!! IMHO a film like Memento or Usual Suspects where you are kept guessing right up to the end is just fantastic, really gripping.
