Good question. I do believe what the Dolphins did last year was cheating. I also believe that the NFL warned the Dolphins about doing it again.
What makes the Patriots case worse is that the NFL has already warned both the entire league and the Patriots individually about this, and they chose to ignore the warnings.
The NFL had no choice but to punish them. You can't keep giving repeated warnings, with no threat of consequences.

Lets get something straight first, the Miami Dolphins didn't cheat last year, they simply picked up cadences and snap count from watching film. Guess what? You can change a cadence or snap count AT ANY TIME, the 2 quarterbacks who are best known for this? Brett Favre and Peyton Manning. The Patriots were stealing defensive signals and plays, which unlike a cadence, cant be changed so easily. Also, this isn't the first time the Patriots have been caught. During last years New England-Green Bay game, THE SAME SITUATION occurred, only that time the Packers didn't press the issue and let them off the hook.
So to try and compare the Dolphins from picking up snap counts to the Patriots MULTIPLE offenses and video taping is a very horrible comparison.

Because the Pats were winning Super Bowls by razor thin margins that cheating may have decided. The Dolphins suck, so no one cares. The same reason everyone cares more about Barry Bonds because he broke records cheating and others didn't.

It has a lot to do with the NFL getting a new commish for one. Roger isn't going to sit around and let people get away with things in his league.
Also I think that when Roger sat down and met with Bill that he didn't like what Bill had to say. It could also be that this is not the first time that NE has been questioned about doing something like this either. Roger probably went back and looked at the Packers complaint from last year.

I did not know the Dolphins cheated - if they did they should be thankful the new commissioner was not in power - and no - not everyone cheats - ask Dungy. Ask Lovie. Ask Cowher.
Smear merchants that are ignorant try to make their conscience better by sliming everyone. The Pats are arrogant and now cheaters - and if they did it once - you can bet they did it in the Super Bowl too.

Everyone is making WAY too much of this. I mean, each team watches tape after tape of their opponents before each game. Additionally, I’m pretty sure the NFL provides, or at least allows, overhead pictures of the offensive and defensive set-ups for each team to study during the game. I'm also fairly certain, each team has spies that try to pick-up the other team's signals during the game and scouts that do it even when the two teams aren't even playing each other. ALL Teams are ALWAYS looking for a competitive advantage.
So it's against the rules to tape the other team's signals...I get it. But for me it's about as egregious as a player trying to get a competitive edge by holding or bumping the receiver too far from the line of scrimmage during the game. Give them a 10 or 15 yard penalty and get on with it…or are we going to begin calling every penalty on the field cheating too?

Its because people are looking for a scapegoat. they see the pats as a real threat to win it and will do what they can to try to stop it.i heard on the news tiki baber saying that "it doesn't matter if you get the signals the players still need to be able to carry out what is thrown at them. and the pats are doing just that. if you can't exicute to stop the play it doesnt matter if you have it or not."

Thats what I wonder too...Why is the NFL singling out the Pats, like they were the only team to do something like that?
