I forgot to mention, I am from Greece, which is an EU country, and my English skills are perfect... I am going to the university, I will be attending an Economics course. Thank you all for your help!! All of you were really helpful.

Ye theres a lot of places to work here in the UK. There are a lot of call centers here that pay decent enough wages and are very easy to get into. Tesco is also good to work for. We have an organisation her called the jobcenter. Here they have a huge list of jobs that you can apply for in your area and they help you get them. :) Good luck!

Dear Korina
If you are not a citizen of the EU and have a student visa, you are required to attend college for at least 15 hours a week and you may work part-time for a maximum of 20 hours a week. During college holidays you may work full-time. If you are an EU citizen, these rules do not apply to you and you can work as many hours a week as you wish.
Most student jobs are in restaurants and care homes and are paid at minimum wage £5.30 per hour.
If you are on a university degree course you will probably have to attend lectures and spend at least another 15 hours studying privately and if English is not your first language you might need even more time for reading, writing and understanding.
I hope this helps you, and welcome to the UK.

You could get a job if you have a working visa but you will have trouble finding one as most students will be looking as they go back to university/college this month and it is very competitive. I have been trying to find a job pretty much since i finished college in June 06 but I haven't had any luck. Also the kind of jobs available for students are not the best your best chance of getting one is looking for a waitressing job but you wont earn much more than minimum wage which wont go very far. You could also look in to working as an interpreter as I presume you speak another language a few of my friends do this, all you need to do is go to an agency and they will call you when they need you to translate for them and you just go if and when you can. Good luck anyway I hope you find something.

It depends upon the kind of Visa that you get for coming over here and what and where you are going to study.
Most courses will allow some time in which you could work, but it would be in the same employment sectors that all of the other students at your place of study will be trying for jobs (pubs/cafes, restaurants etc) Most UK students are to lazy to get a job straight off, so if you go out and try fairly soon after arriving, you may be in luck. But check with the people issuing your visa - you may not be eligable to work over here!

It depends. If you are an UK or EU national, you can work legally as much as you want. It's pretty easy to find student jobs, and your best starting point is via the student union at your Uni.
If you are a non-EU national, you will almost certainly need a student visa from the Home Office BEFORE you arrive. That is true even if you don't need a visa to visit. Such a visa allows you to work 20 hours per week during term-time, and full-time in Uni holidays.

as a student there won't be much open to you, being able to speak English is a plus, but you'll have to do what most students do, wait till you get your timetable so you know when your classes are, and pick up a part-time job. if you are over 18 then you will be able to work almost anywhere, from bars and clubs to corner shops and clothing boutiques. i would recommend weekend and evenings, if you opt to do weekdays it will involve you maybe missing a few days of uni, but you should have lots of time, as for earning money, well, since you are a student you will probably only be put on minimum wage of £5.05 an hour.

the type of job you can get depends on your skills, but you would probably go for evening and weekends jobs and part time, like retail shifts, waitressing, reception work, it would be wise to try to find a job before you get there as it can take a while, although thats not easy or ask a friend who you know, but for renting a room you will be looking at 80 pounds a week for somewhere cosy. in a shared house. anything more than that and you'll be stressing.
but as i said it depends on your language skills and experience.

You will need to ensure the visa you come over on has permission for you to work in the UK. If you already have this, then when you come over to the UK you will need to get an National Insurance Number which you can get from the government over here. Ask at your universities International Office for the best place to obtain this. Good luck

Only if you get a work permit. Make further enquiries at the British Embassy, where you should be able to source the appropriate forms etc , When I was there a few months ago there were lots of jobs available which might suit a student ...............Good Luck!

Depends on your course and the amount of reading/study required and getting a job depends on your visa and your skills and the time you have available. The lower your score on these items - the lower your wages will be.
