Yup, he'd be right up there with the best of the bangers, but when it comes to Metallica bassists, I'd have to go with Cliff Burton (RIP). He was their bassist up until his untimely death in 1986. His soloing on "Anesthesia - (Pulling Teeth)" was cool! All up and coming bassists at that time were learning that one, the same way I was trying to learn John Entwhistle's solo on 'My Generation' back in the 60's. (I'm a bass player).
Perhaps people like 'The Mysterious One' aren't fans of the band? Any Metallica fan would know that Jason spent several years with them. He's playing with Canadian band Voi Vod currently. I never cared much for him in 'Rock Star Super Nova' (a total joke), but it was fun watching Canadian singer Lucas Rossi win that, even if he is a poser!
My favorite Headbanger (old school early 80's) would have to be Slayer bassist/frontman Tom Araya. He's great to watch live, even if his voice isn't what it used to be now.

I wouldn't say he is the greatest headbanger ever.

Plus he is no longer bassist for Metallica. Robert Trujillo is now the bassisit for Metallica a position he has had since 2003. In Metallica terms Cliff Burton was a better headbanger.

Eric Avery. His bass became the main magical portion of Jane's habit. The bassline in Ted only Admit that's the s*it for effective. Flea and Les Claypool make their bass do craziness no one else looks to have the skill to do. not a Primus fan, yet i could rejoice with the innovation. How approximately Kim Gordon from Sonic little ones?

Cliff Burton was a much better headbanger. Hell, go watch the Metallica behind the music and even Scott Ian says what a sick headbanger he was.
