I have found just the opposite...it seems that most rude answers, most nasty comments come from what appear to be children at play...people who haven't a clue as to what they are talking about, but just go on a rant for no reason. I have NOT found grumpy answers from older people in this section at all..in fact, everytime I see a "smart, nasty " answer, it is from a youngin' who really should just stay away, for they contribute nothing but nastiness. This site is full of nasty people...I am left wondering what they do in "real' life..if this is how they behave...if so, they are going to find a very lonely road in life. Good luck and peace. Personally, I couldn't sit around knitting, but everyone is different and...surprise...even some young people love to knit! Some people actually do earn money with it!
As for Granny hitting folks with a skillet, she may have suffered from Alzheimer's or some other condition that made her show anger or other personality changes.
So, rather than knit, I'll go along with you to feed the animals. I love animals. I don't know if you are a farmer, a liontamer or just have a pet rabbit, but feeding animals is always rewarding.
I don't think bad questions or grumpy answers come from elderly people any more than they do younger people. Most of us are neither bad nor grumpy. Seniors are just normal people like yourself, only a little older.

No I do not. And what's with the "Elderly crap!?"
How about "Boomers" or "Seniors" please!
Questions/Answers in other parts of Yahoo where the "young-ins" are are really low caliber. They are poorly spelled, poorly worded, (some questions not even making any sense) grammer is a laughing joke, the typing sucks too, and some apparently think they're text messaging because some of the questions are in abbreviated code.
I find the Seniors to be intelligent, knowledgeable and respectful with few "whiners", hecklers or trollers (but who knows maybe we put them to sleep :O))))
I think we are sustaining our quick wit and charm in this area quite well and very little grumbling going on here. I think it's pretty nice here and so far I'm enjoying the questions.
As for your granny, knitting is a way to escape in your mind while your hands are busy. Crafting, sewing, painting, writing are all about the creative mind being free. And it's all quite cathartic. Maybe you should take up a hobby for yourself that is outside the feeding of animals and "work". You might like it. Besides, I really don't know anybody that ISN'T put out with the damn mail delivery!!! :O))
Seriously, when I"m old enough to be called "Old Granny" I'll probably be grumpy too.

I see grumpy answers sparingly. And not in this category, but
others. So it's an individual thing, not one individual group. I'd
say for the most part, seniors like myself, are more tolerant, and maybe more accepting than perhaps we were
when we were young. But when we were young, we were too
busy enjoying life and beginning careers, we didn't have the
time to look around us as much, or be involved in what others
were doing. It was more about us, and how we were doing in
life that really mattered.
Now I have the time to look around. I have time to watch the
birds bathing in a bird bath. Or watching hummingbirds come
to suckle their nectar from the feeder. Or the squirrels who
come to their nutbox and manage to squeeze themselves
fully inside to devour as much of the sunflower seeds or
peanuts that they can shovel in. Luckily there are still some
things that are the best things in life, and are free. Or I'd be
sitting here at the computer, non stop and really wrecking
my eyesight LOL.
No I think grumpy people have mainly always been grumpy.
But in old age, they don't care to hide it any longer. They
feel they've earned the right to show how miserable they are
and they don't care who knows it. I've always been a happy
person and can also make others laugh and enjoy themselves. But there are those who have been in the doldrums for as long as I've known them, and now they are
beginning to really bother me. LOL. I don't sweat the small
stuff any more, and I don't allow people to get in my face any
more. Life is too short to get cranky and then you lose your
focus on important things. Things that really matter. And if
you spend your time being cranky and making yourself
miserable you are letting yourself miss out on something
really good happening near you. Maybe something just outside your window. And something you'd have enjoyed
seeing, like that little bird in the bird bath splashing and
fluttering it's wings and having the most glorious time.

I don't know if I'm elderly yet but I meet the requirement for an AARP membership. I answer questions that interest me and hope I'm enlightening or helping the person who asked the question. I don't sweeten up my answers to please others. I really don't think I sound that grumpy. As a group the people using the Senior Citizens section are very polite. If you want to hear from grumpy people then read some of the answers in the Religion & Spirituality section.

My Granny didn't get a chance to sit in the "rocker" and knit until she was about 89, ( died at 95) and by then, was in a worn out body. Had lived through the Great Depression, raised 7 children, put up with my Grandfather, and outlived several of her children. RESPECT is the word here. Where and when are we worthy of your respect? Do we have to wait until we are pushing up daisies?

" Knuckles" was a name in "Once Upon A Time in America" and pic agrees.
Each time I visit this site I wonder the same thing, What am I doing here? The answer-I'm giving myself permission to waste time and have fun. It's hard to explain because the time spent produces nothing visible. At least granny had a blanket or scarf to show for her time.
I'm Not grumpy but the young people that visit are carriyng a hatchet.

I think that you knew you would get people angry with your question. You naughty person! i wonder how old you are. Age is just a number. I wonder what age you consider to be elderly. I would say late 80`s. The most grumpy people that i know are ranging from 7to 80 years old. Who has the right to say anothers questions are bad? not many people knit these days as clothes are so cheap to buy. Get on with your chores and have a nice day.

I think a lot of ugly answers come from the younger generations. We oldies don't have time to be so competitive. We know it won't be that long before we turn the whole kitten Caboodle over to the younger generation so they will have to grow up. I'm not grumpy at all; I'm just plain mean, but not without a cause. Why is it that young people don't understand the sense of humor of us oldies?

Bet you never knew half of what your granny had to put up with in her life.
Have you lived through at least one world war?
Have you had to put up with rationing of food 11 years after the war ended?
Have you had to slowly over the years lock your door, house, windows, garage and garden shed for fear that some scallywag would steal from you?
At least you had the benefit of seeing your granny, I lost both mine whilst I was young.
Think on friend the day is coming that you are growing old and may well become a miserable old git.

No, just people in a bad mood, or smart a........
Sure your Granny may be just rocking and knitting, but I bet her mind is racing with memories. And my Mom and her friends get the way your Granny did with the mail, along with a few other things. I think that is because they are hoping to hear from someone, don't really realize how much bigger there town is and how many stops he has, or anxious to talk with someone. Your Granny probably earned that leisure after raising a family, and hard work; and she and her body were tired.
