I don't think it is.
Democracy is vulnerable to corruption but even worse is unfair.
Take a look at the current socialist democratic system where more than half of the population is supported by less than half that are the ones who produce real wealth. I'm not talking about having a job, I'm talking about real wealth production. Those in government jobs are a load to the system as anyone unemployed.
Under this scenario, the majority can decide how to waste... sorry, invest the resources and even to increase them putting the burden on the shoulders of the minority.

Libertarianism is a much much better way to go. Smaller government with (very) limited power. The concept of the government as administrator of the republic (the res publica, the public things) and open markets (no regulations, no interventions).
It's a lot more complex than this paragraph and far from perfect but as perfect as we can be and millions of time more fair than socialism.

The perfect society is called Utopia. Utopia comes from the Greek meaning ' No Place'. Ergo i can never exist any form and that includes government. This basically for the reasons already mentioned: Human fallacy

Sorry to burst your bubble, but democracy is far from perfect. As proof...I offer history.

NO government has stood forever. They ALL come crashing down under the wieght of corruption and human failings. Democracy is no different.
