Traditionally darker hues, shades, and tones are worn in the winter. From the point of view of physics dark colour absorb light and heat, so there's a practical reason for this advice. This year I've been telling my clients to stick with a strong neutral, like black, grey, navy or chocolate brown for basics such as pants. skirts and the like and pep them up with jewel toned tops and accessories and a a few trend pieces. Winter dressing tends to get stuck in neutral, all black, all grey, all brown...yawn. Rich turquoise, pink, and purple zaps the drabs out of brown and grey. Black and navy can be warmed up gold and warm browns. Black and brown together is a new way of wearing two basic colours and making them look less boring and less basic. Teaming black and brown with rich bronze will make you look fashion forward. There's a lot of texture to this winter's fabrics in the top trend pieces such as draped skirts, jumpers, and cuffed pants: heathers, tweeds, herringbones, twills. These are often contrasted with smooth and/or shiny tops and accessories in brilliant jewel tones. If, by february- you are feeling blah and you are tiring of your winter clothes, you can change your tops and accessories to pastels, flower colors or powder colours, adding a breath of spring to keep you going until the real spring arrives.
