I am sooo glad I don't have a mortgage with them. We were considering it at one point.
I would be panicking too if I were a customer.
*edit* sam j - you may be right. We bought in '99 when houses are so cheap. We want to move, but prices are just ridiculous. We have looked into it, but I reckon a crash is about to happen, and we'd end up in negative equity. No thanks! I'll stick where we are for now.

What difference does having a mortgage with them make? It's not loike they can suddenly say "we need all our money today" it just gets shifted to a new lender if they go belly up. They won't go belly up anyway, BoE is lending them money at reduced interest.
