Although answer two offers a bit of sarcasm; I agree that the Vinyl/PVC formed/molded/extruded moldings aren't strictly what's best for interiors, although there are exceptions depending on WHERE and WHY it might be installed.

"NeverRot" however, works very well for exterior applications, as does sculpted/ molded foam... often coated with Stucco... Used on many homes, even into the 7 figure price range.

The difference; beyond the substances; is that many people choose wood to STAIN rather than paint; Certainly both can be painted; but the Vinyl can't be stained.

Neither will have any more or less durability difference indoors; though the Vinyl will show less damage from most OOOPS issues. There are moldings also sold that are basically compressed/ molded foam; covered with a contact paper like covering. Those are often used in Mobile Homes.

One "benefit" to Vinyl is that I can take it into or around curved corners; such as are often found indoors.

I happen to live in a Mobile; BY CHOICE at the moment; have remodeled it; and there is nothing CHEAP about it; beyond the fact that it's essentially a metal can.

In my opinion, Wood Wainscoting, especially oak wainscoting, looks more elegant than plastic wainscoting. but in certain areas such as a bathroom - of course, plastic wainscoting is better. I can provide you some useful wainscoting blogs and I'm positive you'll find them interesting.

I liked using the plastic better. i used it in my bedroom in the crown moulding just under my trey ceiling. its way easier to cut than wood is and not to mention a lot cheaper. once it is painted and up as long as you do a good job people automatically assume its wood.
I have had alot of people in my room. If I say so my self it is really nice looking no one ever even thought twice about I think.

Like wood better.

Neither. MDF is more practical than wood in humid areas, and more stylish than plastic.
