Clean grease and wax off with solvent then lightly sand the surface until dull that gives the paint something to grab onto. Sign painters use enamal paints. And I have noticed they have lots of solid colors. Coverage in one coat is important and ther really good ones can letter and number a race car in one day mostly using brushes.
