I've had 2 c-sections and I was aware of my surroundings during the ops even though I was given anaesthetic. I felt the baby(s) being pulled out I heard everything the docs said - I felt like I was under a great weight trying to breathe (tube) I even felt a burning sensation when the incision was made. Even writing this I getting scared again. One doc called me 'Jayne Fonda' so when I repeated this to my non-believing gyno even he was shocked. The 2nd one I heard then ask what the first baby was girl or boy? I heard the doc say 'bring me cloths there's too much blood - then I felt the staples and stitches. Has anyone else experienced anything like this??

General anaesthetic

I'm not going to say I'm glad I'm not the only one this has happened to as I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy!!!
It can only be likened to what being buried alive must feel like!
I told the doc that I was aware of everything during the first C-section so I presumed he'd dope me up a bit more the 2nd time - no such luck! Oh and they never gave me more after the op in fact they left me naked on the bed and hubby's relations arrived enforce with gifts! The joy of Greek hospitals!!!

Yes-and it remains a terrible memory to this day. I had a tooth extracted, when I was 10 years old and was aware of what the nurses were talking about over my head. The pain was excruciating, I thought they were cutting my head off!
Strangely, it hasn't given me a 'dental phobia'!

Normally in a C section you would be kept under light sedation because too much would cause problems to the baby - but you should have felt no pain, only been aware of the sensations. It does happen I'm afraid so, should you require anaesthesia again in the future, tell the staff prior to the operation so they can take the necessary measures.

i have heard of this before and understand its cos they dont want to give u too much anaesthetic before they deliver the baby, but i understood that they give more after delivery to put u further under so you dont wake up. i had c section and i remember waking up witha tube down my throat and fighting agains t it wondering why i couldnt breathe but i couldnt show i was awake then i heard someone talking and they took the tube out and tried to wake me up, that was when the op was over, however i do remember waking up during tonsils op when i was 5 and hearing doc say we need to get her back to sleep. thats a memory thats stayed with me.

YES!! this happened to me many years ago when i had a rhinoplasty (nose job). The doctor didn't believe me either until i repeated what he said to others assisting with the operation...i was terrified! Although i didn't feel any pain at the time, i could 'feel' the force of the impact when they were reconstructing my nose with whatever they were using, i was too scared to open my eyes to see what was going on. The doctor said 'well you didn't move', to which i replied.....'DO YOU blame me? one slip.....i could have lost half my face! very scary incident, i'm so glad to hear that someone else had this experience!
