Yeah! I have seen people do that a couple of times. It's hard to put a finger on the exact reason for this; however, I have narrowed it down to self-confidence. Walking around symbolizes the fact that you are on solid ground. So when you are speaking to someone knowing that you are fully confident of what you are saying you tend to start pacing around. On the other hand if you are unsure, scared or being taken to task etc. you will desperately be looking for something to grasp or a place to sit down!!!

Haha, that's exactly me! I'm the only one in the family who does it. I have to pace up & down a room & rarely sit when I take a call, no idea why I do it though. I wonder if there has been some study or research done on this.

You know what makes it worse?
When you are on the phone and then you start wandering from room to room, cleaning up the house, which you wouldn't do it you weren't on the phone..... now THAT is something scary!

Probably the same reason you use hand motion on the phone, it's part of talking to someone so it feels right.

It's bus stops with me, I'm like my Dad and forever pacing up and down. I used to yell at him to just stand still but he couldn't and now ... neither can I.
Thanks Dad.
