A captain should lead his team; he should stand by his decision and a very impotant factor to go along with this is that the Team should be along with him; of late this is not happening with lots of criticism about his choice of batting or fielding first. To add insult to injury, Zaheer han himself countered Dravid's statement about his fatigue. All in all, the Team seemed to be losing confidence in his decisions.
I think he has made the right decision; I always feel it is better to end from our side rather than someone throwing us out.
I think Yuvraj should be the next captain although I have a feeling that the Board will decide on Sachin (Krish Srikanth also feels so: http://in.news.yahoo.com/070914/48/6kr4z.html)

First of all the 35+ men i.e Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid and Laxman should retire or be sacked as this old age in not for playing international cricket. They are playing on just to make money!
And Tests and 50 over matches are soon going to be history so Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni be made captain and vice-captain for India respectively! Only they are suitable in the modern 20-20s!

Though many people have been criticising Dravid about his captaincy, his sudden decision to step down is quite surprising. BCCI will take a decision about his successor on 18th September, 2007. If Dhoni dopes well in the twenty/20 series, he can be considered for captaincy. Other contendders for captaincy are saurav Ganguly and Yuvaraj Singh.

I think it is for good. Dravid lead poorly during the recent England tour. He lacks the killer instinct and the ability to handle pressure.
I would like to see Ganguly as a Captain - but chances are rare. Next, Dhoni or Yuvraj.

i was totally surprised at hearing this news today. could nt think of this happening but now that he's decided - it must be for te good of the country. also his captaincy was putting pressure on his batting and it is more important for india that he bats well cos he still has a good amount of cricket left in him.
the next captain should be ganguly but i dont think that the selectors would choose him(the bunch of jokers that they are) then the next choise would automatically be yuvraj singh

A gentleman and a selfless participant yet by some ability who might desire to no longer assert himself as a captain. To captain the Indian team might desire to truly been onerous to him.yet he had greater successes than his predecessors.interior the absence of an experienced successor India will truthfully at a loss.this might launch him from some stress and to that quantity enable us to need he excels in batting.

Yes. He should be morally responsible for bad performance in world cup. Apart from that, many decisions like..
batting first or fielding...
changing bowlers & bowling patterns..
unexplainable batting orders..
selection of final 11..
which have been taken by him have been proven wrong.
A good batsman does not qualify for a good captain. I think his decision is good for him as well as country.

This is quite a shocking news to me.At first , I thought the person teeling me this news was just kidding .
But then I verified that .
I think he choose the wrong moment to announce this decision.
He should have continued at least till next year.

s its really good to hear this. because he is not in the form & lot of pressure was on him. but now he can concentrate only in his batting is enough.
sourav can be the next captain. because he is bold enough to take the decision & also he is in the good form. he can make the crucial situation in favour of him..... he can also keep all the players in control. so this can leed to good team game.
