you might want to check with your nearest bureau de change or bank; I am not even sure if Malaysian Ringgits are accepted overseas for exchange!!! I never travel with Ringgits, I always change here even though it makes me feel like I am being cheated for my hard earned cash...!
Checking with your local bank might also give you an idea about the exchange rate, and then you can compare where it is better to change, here in Malaysia or in the UK.

Effendi is right - I lived in the UK for a few months once, just carried travellers cheques with me because friends who live there told me that a lot of banks over there do not accept ringgit (a.k.a Malaysian dollars). They should of course carry some pound sterling with them because on arrival they will need it for transport, food etc., before getting to a bank to change their travellers cheques.
They should just carry enough ringgit for them to travel from the airport back home on their way back from the UK, and a bit extra for food on the way home too.

If you want a better exchange rate, you better change it in Malaysia & check around before your change.
Most of the other country no longer accept MYR accept Thailand & Singapore.
For convenience sick, you can either use your credit card all the time & bring some small amount with you or withdrawn from their local ATM. Most of the bank is link with Cirrus, PLUS or visa electron worldwide which allow you to withdrawn money. However, they will be certain amount of interbank charges.

Effendi is right, or change Ringgit to US dollar 1st (here in Malaysia), then change it to Pound once they reach UK.

i usually change my pounds here in malaysia specifically at mid valley lower ground next to the 1901 hot dog shop. there are two money changers there so you have to check with each to see which gives a better rate.
